“While I am here [HPU], I might as well meet as many people as I can, so I took on several university jobs”.

 

    Phillip’s radio show was not his first gig on the campus of HPU. He previously worked for HPU Student Life. He sums the experience up to being ‘lost’. He busied himself with mindless jobs.. Branching out and being involved was something he stressed to be very important. Through his time at Student Life and working as a Resident Assistant, Phillips met interesting people and felt as if he were part of a true community.

 

“After my parents divorced I really had to grow up. I wasn’t sure what to do. My head was in a lot of different places and I was stuck,” he explains when asked about choosing his career path.

 

Phillips began college as a biology major. He laughed when he explained the story and ended saying, “I don’t know science?!” Phillips also dabbled in pre-med and other rigorous studies before coming to terms with the fact that journalism is where he needed to be. He found his way to the school of communications hoping to find a career that would make him the center of attention.

 

“Logan has such a vibrant personality. It just makes sense that he would have a career in some sort of media or production!” says fellow student and friend, Sylvanna Schiefele.

 

Scheifele first heard “The Logan Phillip’s Show” during her junior year and fell in love with the content. The show is a place where comedy, community and celebrity gossip fuse together for two hours weekly.

 

           

“We really spill the tea,” Phillips chuckled as we spoke of his very own radio show.

 

Through his struggles and obstacles to finally reach his dream degree, Phillips began his own radio show with HPU. Logan began his show with hopes to obviously “spill the tea”. He hit on some bullet points that he has featured in the past– the Kardashians, Demi Lavato’s drug addiction, and the security guard that pissed him off last week! It seems as if the show truly does, ‘spill the tea’.

 

 

“You can be funny without being mean to someone and that’s what my show does.”

 

A few weeks back, he spoke out about Demi Lavato’s drug abuse. Rather than talking down on her for being an addict, Phillips brought a psychology major on air with him to walk to listeners through the logistics of addiction. He wanted listeners to be able to understand Demi rather than poke fun at her in such an emotional time.

 

 

The Logan Phillips Show was a show born from true trial and error. Phillips is a student with a glamorous dream, a studio and a flooring sense of humor. Phillips has had his fair share of trouble on his way but he hasn’t seemed to let them get the best of him. Through growing up with a negative self-image, his parent’s divorce and not finding the right degree immediately,  it almost seemed impossible for a successful show to come out of the mix. They say, diamonds are made under pressure!
